The March 12th BIPOC/Local Grower Cohort meeting will be a special workshop led by Feeding America’s partners at The Urban Institute.

This interactive session will focus on strategic communication, specifically how we can build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, producers, and other partners, even when funding like LFPA and CCC pauses or disappears.

We know these funding gaps have left food banks, farmers, and producers in tough positions. But our relationships shouldn’t rely on funding alone, they need to be grounded in trust, transparency, and clear communication about our collective impact.

In this session, we’ll cover the following.

Tips and tools to help you build and sustain trust with local farmers, producers, and partners

How to tell your food bank’s local food system story in a way that connects local impact to bigger systems change

Ways to communicate not just successes, but also the risks and consequences when funding disappears, especially to policymakers and funders

Practical resources you can take back and use right away

This will be a hands-on, community-centered conversation, and we’d love to have your voice in the room!

Food bank staff, local producers and farmers, and anyone involved in local food systems work are all welcome to participate.

Bring your experiences, questions, and insights. We’ll be learning from each other as much as from the facilitators!

This call takes place 10PT/12CT/1ET on Wednesday, March 12th
