Our recent F2FA CoP call included an update on the Farm Bill, resources for reaching out to your congress members and sharing of preliminary findings of our F2FA research. See below for resources and how to add your contributions to the research findings. We are not meeting in August and will resume September 12th.

    Farm Bill Update

Hannah Quigley from the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition updated us on the LFPA’s chance of being permanently funded in the Farm Bill.

Key point: Only a few Congressional members know about the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program and the impact is has on our communities.

It is extremely unlikely the Farm Bill will pass before September, we have an opportunity to educate our Members of Congress about how important this program is for our communities. Now is the time to reach out to your Senate and House representatives and make sure they know what the program is and the value it is to farmers, families and businesses in your area and state.

Hannah created a resource for you to copy/paste in sending that message to your Congressional member. The framing of this message is educational outreach. The content of the template would not be considered lobbying. https://docs.google.com/document/d/14LJlesaRmSWoXPEinVoZcJihDIQ7nH7hyErV7qvttp8/edit

Food to Farm Assistance Research Findings

We also heard from Wallace Center’s research partners, Alison Cohen and Rachel Dannefer, reporting on the initial findings in the first ever national research into the F2FA field. The Wallace Center will release this research in a formal report in the autumn.

Community of Practice participants vetted the primary areas of research and offered their thoughts and experiences. Their feedback will be incorporated in the final report.

The Primary Areas of Research Include:

    1. Core Values of Equity-centered, Community-driven F2FA Programs

    2. Strategies for Values-based F2FA Programs

    3. F2FA As a Lever for Food Systems Transformation

Detailed informal about the research can be found in the Zoom Recording and the Research Findings Slides (see links below).

    Research Comments

We welcome your feedback and input on these findings!

If you were not able to attend or if you did not get a chance to join a group, please feel free to offer comments in the discussion notes. As a member of the F2FA CoP you have “Comment” permissions on the document links below.
