Hi all – Has anyone worked with or even better, set up, a food hub as a B-Corp? It seems like most are non-profit. Can you share why you went one way or another? Or if you know of any just post them here?

    Thank you!

    Naomi and all

Headwaters Food Hub in Rochester NY is a B-corp certified food hub. https://www.headwaterfoodhub.com/our-story. They are a for profit food hub with a strong social mission. I have not asked them their reasons for forming as a for profit and a B corp specifically, however, I do know several of them personally and know the are very committed to a more sustainable and equitable food system and believe the path they have chosen for the hub is its best position to have that impact: being in the market and opening market channels for local and regional growers and seeking to have local equitably produced food in service of greater food security for all. Cheers, John

Hi, I have been going through the assessment and it seems like we’d need to make a big commitment to move that way from where we currently are. I like using the assessment though, to set some specific goals for becoming a more responsible organization or establishing reportable metrics.

Thank you Valerie – yes it’s definitely a significant commitment. That said, it does send a strong values message to those who know the program.
