Interpretation services for USDA external audits?
Hi Everyone!
We got notice that one of our farms was selected for a USDA external audit for Harmonized GAP. The farm is owned and operated by native Mandarin speakers who have limited English language abilities (spoken and written). The owner and lead contact for the operation, is sufficient in English however his staff has more difficulties. Talking with the producer and his employees we both feel that interpretation will be necessary for clear and efficient communication. During previous internal audits we have used IA translation apps, however they even be pretty clunky and slow with many errors.
We were wondering if the USDA is able to provide any interpretation services or funding? (Our initial instinct is no). Does anyone have experience/success in getting USDA to support (coordinating and/or covering the cost of) an interpreter for the producer at a USDA external audit?
We have a few interpreter contacts who we could coordinate with here on Oahu but wanted to know what funding/support if any is available for this type of situation.
