Good morning! I have a colleague speaking at the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) Roundtable of Principals in Austin, Texas and would love to share a map of the regional (local) food system in the southwest region of the U.S. I’ve looked online and do not see a local/regional map of assets. This would be shared in regards to sourcing locally for schools within the region. If anyone has a link to such a resources could you please share it with me? Thanks! Diane

I am not aware of any regional maps that exist, but suspect that the Regional Food Business Centers may launch mapping projects for the two regions that cover SW US. I do know of gpod maps produced by City of Austin, Bioneers in New Mexico, ourselves in Phoenix metro area, and San Diego. I am sure there are others out there as well.

Hi Diane – My firm, Food Works Group, developed an asset map in partnership with Local Food Network to support the mission of the Eastern Food Hub Collaborative (EFC). The first stage of the map seeks to plot food hub storage opportunities across all temp zones (warehouses, cross dock locations, parking lot meet ups, more) up and down the east coast (the EFC footprint) in an effort to enhance trade and transactions among the hubs in the network. There are larger goals for this map to support the EFC once more support is secured. I’d be happy to tell you more about this map as I think it could be an opportunity to support your project. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].
