Sharing a call we’re hosting on Sept 27th to help de-mystify the food banking world and share tips for developing fruitful and reciprocal partnerships with food banks in your community. We’ve heard that lots of community based food systems folks are trying to forge partnerships with anti-hunger efforts, through the LFPA and other opportunities, and that there can be some translation issues. On this call, some food bank friends who will help us understand the disconnects and ways to manage them. This is a follow up from a conversation we had about the promise and pitfalls of the LFPA a few weeks ago (notes here!).

The gap between local food systems work and anti-hunger is closing, bolstered by programs like the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program. However, these two systems operate with different constraints, metrics, and mental models. The Food Systems Leadership Network is here to help you navigate! Our friends and food bank experts Dionne Washington of Arizona Food Bank Network, Dru Montri of Feeding America, and Heidi Coe of Second Harvest Heartland will walk us through some food bank basics, tools for developing relationships, and models that are working well to align local food systems and food banks. The call will be September 27th at 2pm ET/11am PT. Register here! We will share the recording if you can’t make it.
