    Hi Makala,

Interestingly enough, just yesterday our food hub sent an email to our affiliated farmers requesting their food safety plans. A few of our farmers either have one already or are working on them as we speak. As a part of free technical assistance for our affiliated farmers, we send them this google form to fill out and we will help them create a food safety plan to use not just for our buyers but for whoever they do business with outside of our hub. I have attached the PDF version of the food safety plan google form for your reference.

    I hope this helps!

For Nebraska we are just ensuring that farms are following the FSMA, and have complied with the Produce Safety Rule. These produce farms are managed and inspected annually by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.

Hey Makala – really good question!

Our state agency, the RI Department of Environmental Management, requires that participating farmers be actively engaged in the process of meeting state food safety requirements. They should be on the list of people waiting to take DEM’s Produce Safety Rule training, and then take the class when it becomes available. If they don’t meet the exemptions for GAP certification, then they should be working on that as well. And they have to be registered with DEM as a farm business.

We are planning on having our team take a Produce Safety Rule training offered by Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative!
