A Message from Hannah Quiqley and an Opportunity to Endorse the EAT Act.

Hannah says: “We want to pull together a strong list of endorsers by February 1st at the latest.”

Help us demonstrate support for sustaining funding for LFPA

Senator Reed from Rhode Island will soon introduce a bill (February 8th!) called the Expanding Access to (EAT) Local Foods Act. The bill will create a permanent grant program for state and tribal governments to purchase local foods for distribution to community food access programs (the same way that LFPA has been operating). In addition to funding for direct purchases of food, the funding can also support personnel costs, outreach, technical assistance for food safety training, or other necessary investments for strengthening the local value chain. The bill also directs states and tribal governments to prioritize purchases from small, beginning, and underserved producers. You can find a full bill summary here.

Here is how you can help

When this bill is introduced, we want to demonstrate the broad support for it by including a long list of endorsing organizations. If your organization or business would like to express your support for this bill, complete this google form to endorse the bill.

Once the bill has been introduced, I can provide more information on how you can reach out directly to your member of Congress and ask for them to support the bill.

Feel free to reach out to Hannah Quigley with any questions ([email protected])
