Hi everyone! I am co-leading an end of year reflection/gratitude session for our team, and wondering what practices or tools other use for these types of sessions? We have used rose/bud/thorn in the past, but I’m wondering what works for you? We have an hour to work and will have 12 team members on a virtual meeting. Any suggestions from the systems leaders in here?

One thing that is beautiful to both give and receive is learning the impact you have had on others.

I have asked, how have I impacted you, your life, etc.? It’s a very thoughtful practice.

Reflection over the past year means that I am grateful to the ones who have inspired me. Too often we are co-opting the work and ideas of others, claiming the work as our own and then situating the person or movement as, “the competition” when really, we owe them gratitude for their inspiration and the strong shoulders that we are able to stand on. I have been involved in food justice work for nearly 40 years, when I started our first community garden on our land in Missouri. We were inspired by the Nearings, Scott and Helen and countless other movements and organizations like the Rodale Institute. We were futurists then. Now that the work of food justice has reached a tipping point, the momentum of the movement carries itself. My goal is to be an inspiration to others and to dispel this corrosive myth of “competition”.
